The district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is located in the western part of the city. It consists in small independent urban areas that have been becoming part of Barcelona throughout the time. These are Sarrià, Sant Gervasi of Cassoles, Galvany, Turó Parc, Bonanova, Putxet, Vallvidrera, Tibidabo, Farró.
A great contrast exists mainly between the north area, with spacious green areas as Tibidabo and Collserola (the famous tower of communications is located there), and the southern area (Putxet or Sarrià), more of a residential type.
In this upclass district the houses and flats are mostly bigger than in the rest of the city, and also quite more expensive. Many of the celebrities choose to live here, due to its ideal combination of housing with the green areas, the silence and low contamination index.
Sarrià, one of the most popular areas, is where most of its population resides. Pedralbes on the other hand has fancier houses, most of them with garden and private pool, a luxury at the reach of few. Two big universities (UB and UPC) are also situated in this area.
The public transport access is one of its weakest points, since the metro lines don't reach all areas of Sarriá-Sant Gervasi. In alternative it’s possible to take the Ferrocaril de la Generalitat (FGC) train or the city bus, which can take you to any part of the city in a short ride.
Although it is not really a tourist neighborhood, there are different places worth visiting, such as Collserola park and its communications tower, the Tididabo and its amusement park, the Monastery of Pedralbes, the Royal Palace that lodges their majesties the Kings on their visits to the city, or the Royal Club of Tennis, where the famous tennis tournament, Open Godó, takes place annually.
